Ocean of Jade - Generation One, Chapter Five

After that date with Kenyon things weren't the same, and continued to go down hill for another month before Aesleng's father finally packed up his things, and surprised his daughter that he was not only coming for a visit but moving to Cala Blanca. Early one morning, Timothy knocked on his daughter's door, and when Aesleng answered she could not believe what she saw. Her father not only visiting, but, moving closer? She loved her father, and to have him closer, well, it meant the world to her. Of course, the only person that knew about her predicament was Mulberry, not even her father knew which was saying something. Inviting him in, they kept each other company for a while, drank tea and had a delicious lunch, but, she couldn't help but have her mind wander on occasion back to where it had been for the last nine weeks. Her "cold" was still bothering her, but she knew that today she was going to find out fair and square, right after her father left to go finish unpacking.

Three hours after her father came over to tell her the good news, she locked up her small apartment, and went down to the corner to the pharmacy to buy her peace of mind. The next big step was actually getting home with it, finding out the truth, and then dealing with the truth, with or without Kenyon by her side. She really cared for the guy, but, he's showing himself to not exactly be the prince charming that she use to see him as. Fifteen minutes after leaving her house, she arrived back and was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, a pregnancy test on the counter. Aesleng's stomach was in knots and she still had another two minutes left. She wanted to call Mulberry but Aesleng knew that she wouldn't be there anyhow, she worked, and it was still the middle of the day. No, she was to deal with this specific part alone.

Ding.

Two minutes went by slowly, and at that exact moment Aesleng swallowed hard and stood up from the edge of the tub, and glanced down at the counter. There was two clear pink lines on the test, and Aesleng felt dizzy. Closing her eyes briefly, Aesleng wondered what Kenyon would say. What was Aesleng to do? She was pregnant. Kenyon didn't want kids, especially right now, and despite she wanted a family, she knew that this wasn't going to go over well with him. What would her father say? Now that he was living in Cala Blanca, she knew that he would try to have a 'talk' with him. Sighing to herself, she looked into the mirror, and wondered what she was going to do, because ultimately this was up to her. Was she even wanting to keep this child? She wasn't sure she could even raise a child on her own, and she didn't want to bring a child into the world without two parents. It had been hard on her without her mother in the picture and it was a completely different situation. Was abortion really an option for her? Would Kenyon change his mind?

Splashing cool water on her face and wiping it off, she decided to go and find out exactly what Kenyon was to say about this. She knew how he felt about having children, but being told your girlfriend is pregnant was an entirely different situation. She locked her small apartment up, and took the short walk to the fire department which was just down the street, and Kenyon was actually outside the building working on the fire truck. He greeted her in his normal fashion, at least as of late with a swift kiss on the cheek. "We need to talk Kenyon." He looked toward her and could see that she had something on her mind, but, really, it couldn't wait until after he got off his shift in an hour or so? "Sure, I guess.. but can it wait until after i get off work?" Aesleng shook her head, "It won't take long." She couldn't believe how rude he had gotten over the last few weeks as if she didn't matter. Why she was still with him was besides her, but it was obvious why. She cared for him still. Loved him.

"Well.. I know how you feel about what I have to say, but, Ken, I'm pregnant.. Found out today." Aesleng tried to keep her eyes on him but, the moment the words escaped her lips her eyes fell from him to the ground before her. Kenyon was stunned. "What? How? We were always careful. You know I don't want kids, especially right now." Aesleng nodded her head. "I know. I know." Kenyon took a step closer to her, shaking his head. "Get rid of it." The man blunt in his words which cut Aesleng down. She didn't think he would have said this but, it really hurt her. Sure, she had already been thinking of the same thing, but, that was besides the point. He had the nerve to tell her what to do. "Seriously?" Aesleng looked toward him coldly and stated. "Either get rid of it, or raise it on your own, I want no part of it. I told you this." Aesleng folded her arms across her chest and scolded him and the two began to fight with one another loud enough for another member of the squad to come out to see what was going on.

"Screw you, I'm done." Aesleng stormed off from the fire department, her face wet from being so angry that tears fell from her eyes, and went straight home. What was she going to do now? She couldn't stand living in this place any longer especially since Kenyon lived in the same building. She wasn't sure what to do about the baby either. Deciding to talk to Mulberry about it all, which by then was home from work, Aesleng thought that since was a bit older, would have some sound advice and help her figure out what would be the best thing for her to do. She also knew that she wouldn't tell her to keep the child just because she had children either. Now if only she knew how to talk to her father about all of this.
